we’re doing a challenge chain over at the youlookfab forums, where one member challenges the next, who challenges the next, and so on. forum member maya has challenged me to come up with a “sophisticated monochrome” ensemble, which made me giggle because i am a) not at all sophisticated, and b) more glorious technicolor than monochrome.
i approached my assignment with a great deal of trepidation (check me out with the SAT vocab skeelz), because i didn’t relish the thought of looking like a blob of color. but! – there’s always a but here at OHN – i think i managed to get enough play on color and texture and general visual interest to pull something off. at least, i think so. behold:
tunic top, UO. denim flared skirt, target. cardigan, modcloth.com. pewter wedge sandals, target. necklace, gift from my sister (well, i use the term “gift” loosely. i may or may not just have borrowed it and then never actually given it back…)
maya’s instructions specifically stated the use of one color, and i didn’t want to fall back on black or grey, so i went to the colors i look best in – and thus, appear most in my closet. blue-greens bring out the best of my coloring, i think, so i paired a teal tunic with an aqua cardigan, used the necklace to tie it together, then picked out a flared denim skirt to go with the swingy sillhouette of the tunic – it almost makes it look like a tiered boho dress.
i quite like how this turned out, but we’ll see if it passes the ylf test – and yours, of course, if you let me know what you think in the comments :).
